TEN FACTS ABOUT TUTANKHAMUN
Here are ten facts about the famous Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, Tutankhamun.
FACT ONE
Tutankhamun was only eight or nine when he became ruler of Egypt. As King at such a young age, most of the decision-making was made by two senior figures, likely to have been Ay (father of Nefertiti) and Horemheb, an army commander.
FACT TWO
Tutankhamun was only King for about ten years before dying in his late teens. It was estimated that he ruled from 1333 BC to1324 BC.
FACT THREE
Over the years, scientists have used available technology to determine the cause of Tutankhamun's death. The two most popular theories about his death are that he suffered a blow to the back of the head, either accidentally or deliberately (in other words, murder), or that he broke or fractured his leg which became infected - an infection that led to his death possibly only days later.
FACT FOUR
Tutankhamun may have married one of his half-sisters. It is thought that Tutankhamun's father was Akhenaten. Akhenaten was married to Nefertiti, who bore him six daughters. Akhenaten also had a lesser wife, Kira, who is believed to have given birth to Tutankhamun. It is thought that Tutankhamun married Ankhesenpaaten, one of the daughters of Akhenaten and Nefertiti. Confused?
FACT FIVE
Tutankhamun was born Tutankhaten. Akhenaten, Tutankhamun's father, wanted Egyptians to worship one god, the Sun God Aten, instead of the multitude of gods they already worshipped and the main deity Amun. The "Aten" at the end of Tutankhaten and Akhenaten's names refers to this (Akhenaten means "servant of the Aten" and Tutankhaten means "Living image of Aten"). Akhenaten's changes weren't too popular, so when Tutankhaten was in charge, he changed things back to how they were, reopening the various closed temples around the country, and changing his name to Tutankhamun. Incidentally, Akhenaten's original name before he started making changes was Amenhotep IV.
FACT SIX
Despite being one of the most well-known of the Egyptian pharoahs to modern people, evidence of Tutankhamun's reign was obliterated shortly after his death. The ruler of Eygpt after the death of Tutankhamun's successor was Horemheb, who replaced Tutankhamun's name with his own on many monuments bearing Tutankhamun's name.
FACT SEVEN
Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered on 4th November 1922 by Egyptologist Howard Carter. It was was so well-preserved that we are able to get a more complete insight of Tutankhamun's life due. Tutankhamun's remains are still contained in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings at Luxor, Egypt. His famous burial mask is on public display in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (in the only air-conditioned room in the building!).
FACT EIGHT
CAT scans on Tutankhamun's body in 2005 revealed that the King was about 5 foot, 8 inches tall (180 cm). He was of slight build but was well nourished.
FACT NINE
Tutankhamun and his wife had no children, although Ankhesenpaaten did miscarry twice. The bodies of two stillborn baby girls were mummified and placed in Tutankhamun's tomb in small coffins.
FACT TEN
Certain strange events are said to have happened after the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb and removal of items from it. The media at the time put this down to The Curse of Tutankhamun or the Pharaoh's Curse. Financial support for the the project that later led to Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb came from Lord Carnarvon. However, in April 1923, seven weeks after the official opening of Tutankhamun's burial chamber, Carnarvon died after a mosquito bite on his cheek became infected. After lifting Tutankhamun's death mask, it was found that the pharaoh himself had a lesion in the same place on his cheek. At the same time of Carnarvon's death, the lights in Cairo went out (although this apparently was a fairly common occurrence) and back at home in England, Lord Carnarvon's dog Susie howled and dropped dead. Also quite spooky was the fact that Howard Carter's pet canary was eaten by a snake on the day of the opening of the tomb. The media speculated that a number of people involved with the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb died shortly afterwards, but tend to ignore the fact the the majority actually survived to a ripe old age, and most of those that died shortly afterwards were quite elderly or in poor health anyway.
TEN FACTS ABOUT THE BERLIN WALL
The Berlin Wall was a wall separating the Eastern side of Berlin from the Western side. It was a symbol of The Cold War until it fell in 1989. Here are ten facts about the Berlin Wall.
FACT ONE
Construction of the Berlin Wall began on August 13 1961 as a way of separating the three zones controlled by France, Britain and America from the zone controlled by the Soviet Union.
After World War Two, Germany was split into four zones, each occupied by one of the four Allied powers that defeated the Nazis. The zones controlled by France, Great Britain and America became West Germany, or Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany). The Soviet-controlled zone became East Germany, or Deutsche Demokratische Republik (Germany Democratic Republic). Germany's capital, Berlin, was situated in Soviet-controlled East Germany , but as this city was the administrative area for the Allied forces, it too was split into four. This meant that France, Great Britain and America controlled West Berlin, whereas the Soviet Union controlled the East. Relations between America and the Soviet Union soured considerably during much of the second half of the Twentieth Century. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of this hostility, a physical representation of what was called the Iron Curtain.
FACT TWO
The Berlin Wall was constructed as a way of preventing East Germans from entering West Germany. It was not so much a boundary for West Germans wanting to enter the East, who were able to do so by obtaining a permit several weeks in advance. It didn't face much opposition by the western powers as its construction confirmed that the Soviet Union were not planning to take over West Berlin.
FACT THREE
Official figures show that at least 136 people died trying to cross the border. People attempting to get from East to West were regarded as traitors and guards were instructed to shoot at them if they attempted to cross, although not to kill them.
FACT FOUR
The west side of the Berlin wall was covered in graffiti. The East side was not.
FACT FIVE
The Berlin Wall was something of a propaganda disaster for the Soviet Union and East Germany. It showed the communists to be tyrannical in the way they controlled the movement of their people and their willingness to shoot at people they considered to be traitors.
FACT SIX
West Berliners used the Berlin Wall as an ideal way of getting rid of rubbish. If they had anything that needed throwing away, they threw it over the wall. After all, it wasn't as if they would be made to go over it to fetch it back.
FACT SEVEN
Michael Knight himself, David Hassellhoff, is huge in Germany. The Hoff performed his hit "Looking For Freedom" while standing on the Berlin Wall in 1989.
FACT EIGHT
Despite there being a wall separating East from West, there were a number of checkpoints that allowed passage to and from the two sides. The most famous of these was Checkpoint Charlie, a checkpoint separating the American-controlled zone of West Berlin from the Soviet-controlled East Berlin. The guard house for Checkpoint Charlie was removed in October 1990 and is now situated in the Allied Museum in Berlin-Zehlendorf. The last remnant of Checkpoint Charlie, an East German watchtower, was demolished in 2000.
FACT NINE
Although November 9th 1989 is recognised as the date of the fall of the Berlin Wall, official demolition of it didn't start until June 13th 1990. Between November 9th and June 13th, border controls still existed, although were less strict that previously. Parts of the wall was chipped away by Germans to keep as souvenirs/sell on eBay. People who did this were known as "wall woodpeckers" (Mauerspechte) Some parts of the wall had been taken down but only to make way for more crossing points. All border controls ended on July 1st 1990 and Germany was recognised as one country again from October 3rd 1990.

FACT TEN
The Berlin Wall was a physical barrier above the ground, but what about under the ground? Berlin, like many major cities, has an underground or subway system. After construction of the Berlin Wall, trains could only operate on the side in which they were based. Some trains either ran purely on the west side or the east side. Trains which previously crossed the border would now go no further than its respective border and then turn back. This was apart from three lines that were used by West Berliners but which went through East Berlin for a small part of their journeys. They travelled through several stations which became known as Ghost Stations (Geisterbahnhöfe), dimly lit and heavily-guarded stations that the trains were unable to stop at. This was apart from certain exceptions: Friedrichstasse Station was situated in East Berlin, but was used a transfer station for passengers to get onto other trains travelling to locations in West Berlin. Passengers could also enter East Berlin at this station if they had the relevant permits (also needed for crossing the Berlin Wall). Bornholmer Strasse Station was a station that both West and East Berlin trains passed through, but not on the same lines. Neither side's trains stopped at the station, and the two lines through it were separated by a tall fence. Finally, Wallankstrasse Station was another station situated right on the border. There were exits in the station, some leading the West Berlin, some leading to East Berlin. The exits to West Berlin were open and allowed people to pass through it freely. The exits to streets in East Berlin were locked. When the Ghost Stations were reopened after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first people using them found them preserved as they were when they closed in 1961 with the same signage and advertisements on the walls.
11 times Simphsons predicted future

And this wasn't the only time the writers had managed to predict the future.
"The Simpsons" has been running for over 25 years, so it's inevitable that some themes that crop up in the show might occur in real life. But some of the plotlines are eerily close to events that have happened throughout the world.
We've listed some of the strangest predictions the cartoon's writers have made since the show's launch in 1989.
From Homer discovering the Higgs boson to animators drawing The Shard in London almost 20 years before it was built, here are 11 times "The Simpsons" predicted the future.
11. Faulty voting machines — Season 20, Episode 4
Four years later, a voting machine in Pennsylvania had to be removed after it kept changing people's votes for Barack Obama to ones for his Republican rival Mitt Romney.
10. The invention of the tomacco plant — Season 11, Episode 5
This inspired US "Simpsons" fan Rob Baur to create his own plant. In 2003, Baur grafted together a tobacco root and a tomato stem to make "tomacco." Writers for "The Simpsons" were so impressed that they invited Baur and his family to their offices and ate the tomacco fruit themselves.
9. Ebola outbreak — Season 9, Episode 3
Ebola was first discovered in 1976, and though this latest outbreak has been the worst yet, it killed 254 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1995 and 224 in Uganda in 2000.
8. The discovery of the Higgs boson equation — Season 8, Episode 1

According to Simon Singh, the author of "The Simpsons and their Mathematical Secrets," the equation predicts the mass of the Higgs boson particle. It was first predicted in 1964 by Professor Peter Higgs and five other physicists, but it wasn't until 2013 that scientists discovered proof of the Higgs boson in a £10.4 billion ($13 billion) experiment.
7. The invention of The Shard — Season 6, Episode 19

Nine years later, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland found horse DNA in over one-third of beefburger samples from supermarkets and ready meals, and pig in 85% of them.
4. Siegfried and Roy tiger attack — Season 5, Episode 10
In 2003, Roy Horn of Siegfried and Roy was attacked during a live performance by Montecore, one of their white tigers. Roy lived but sustained severe injuries in the attack.
3. Letter from The Beatles — Season 2, Episode 18
In September 2013, two Beatles fans from Essex received a reply from Paul McCartney to a letter and recording they sent to the band 50 years ago. The recording was sent to a London theatre the band was due to play at but was found years later in a car boot sale by a historian.
In 2013, the BBC's "The One Show" reunited the pair with their letter, plus a reply from McCartney.
2. The censorship of Michelangelo's David — Season 2, Episode 9
The satire of censorship came true in July 2016, when Russian campaigners voted on whether to clothe a copy of the Renaissance statue that had been set up in central St Petersburg.
1. Three-eyed fish — Season 2, Episode 4
More than a decade later, a three-eyed fish was discovered in a reservoir in Argentina. Strangely enough, the reservoir itself was fed by water from a nuclear power plant.

Did you inherit your backside "from your mama"?
I've always had a booty. It's partly genetic, but working out has helped a lot.
So what does your workout routine look like, then?
I work lower body two to three times a week with weights. I do different combinations of squats, lunges, leg raises, hip thrusts, dead lifts, step ups, and leg press, to name a few. I try to always switch it up.

Whatever you're doing, it's working. Any other tips?
Always mentally focus on your butt when you work out. It will help you see better results than just going through the motions.

Speaking of which, why are we all so focused on butts nowadays?
I think it's just the culture we live in today. Everyone wants a booty!

Definitely. We gotta ask: do you think you have a better butt than Jen Selter (@jenselter)?No, she has an amazing booty! I think we have very different body types though, so I don't really understand the frequent comparisons. She is much more lean and muscular, and I am a bit curvier.
When did you begin posting to Instagram?
I am a personal trainer, and I had a client who had been in a few hip-hop music videos, so she had about 80,000 followers. One day we took a selfie together at the gym, and she posted it and tagged me. I was suddenly flooded with followers and requests to post workout videos, so I figured I would go with it.

How did you eventually reach 8 million followers?
I have no idea! I'm pretty shocked by how fast my page grows. There are so many fitness IG girls who had about 500,000 to 1 million more followers than I did when I started. Now I've surpassed almost all of them by millions.

We can guess why. What's the weirdest thing that's happened to you since you became Instagram famous?
I don't know if it's a single thing, but the weirdest part for me is that I can't walk into a gym anymore without being recognized.

Must be tough. What's next for you? An acting career perhaps?
I am not trying to be an actress. I am more interested in building my fitness brand with my website and app. A dream gig would be to have a fitness empire.

What's one thing that no one knows about you?
Nobody knows that I'm actually really shy in person. I see social media as a way to build a brand. I am not as comfortable with all the attention that comes with it.

Since you’re now a sex symbol, let us ask you this: what should a man always do in bed?
I like when a man takes control in bed and just in general. I like aggressiveness.

I don't like when guys try to rush things and hook up too soon. Patience is a turn on, and it creates more mystery and intrigue.

We know a few. Is there one thing a man can do to make you fall for him?
I love when a guy makes it clear that they are interested. For example, calling and texting regularly, planning cute dates, and showing affection. When a guy acts too aloof or "plays it cool," I lose interest.

There are so many! I would have to go with uncleanliness, no sense of humor, taking yourself too seriously, and no fashion sense.
